As the Civil War winds violently down, fears of the South’s uncertain future fuse with its unraveling traditions. Against the backdrop of this post-apocalyptic landscape, so littered with corpses and mythology and desperation, two women, stranded and alone in the Louisiana bayou, fight to survive.

Review/ Reseña
I received this novel in exchange for an honest review from the publisher. I didn't quite enjoy this book, I just don't think it agreed with me. It was very condensed with history (and yes, I know that it's a historical fiction novel) and it made for a rather slow pace. The characters were not really memorable to be quite honest, nothing about them grabbed me and the actual story didn't interest me as much as I thought it would. I got about 220 pages into this novel which is near completion and I felt like I was struggling to finish it which is horrible because I'm not at school, I shouldn't fight to finish books so...I didn't.

I went into this novel knowing absolutely nothing about the Civil War and I think I almost finished it with a good knowledge of it. I don't know but I felt like there was too much information and it kind of took away from the story. It slowed down the pace by a lot and it made the book boring and not fun to read.

I was quite indifferent to the characters in this novel. The only one I partially enjoyed reading about was Buford and even then, not that much. I did not get attached to them because I didn't learn a lot about them, especially "the girl" whose name I didn't even know while reading this. They were all bland and faded into the background for me.

While I did really enjoy the premise of the novel and the idea of the struggle that the two women faced, I was confused by the direction that the novel was taking coming down to the end. There were psychopaths skinning wolves, women jumping down wells and my mind could not fathom the relevance of all that was happening. I thought, though, that the novel was true to the happenings of the Civil War. It felt real and the writing was quite descriptive and very free-flowing.

I decided to give this novel two cupcakes because I mostly did not fancy it but there were some elements that I like. For example, the accuracy of the historical event and the sneaky little sexual innuendos here and there. It was not my favourite but if you enjoy historical fiction novels, I think that you should definitely give it a go, you might actually find yourself liking it.

What would you kill for?
After a brutal nuclear war, the United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.

This year, it is my turn.

My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and return the Westfall family to power.

But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel, heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.

Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…

Review/ Reseña

OMG! There are no words to describe my love for this book. I loved it! The characters were amazing and unique and fun to read about. The premise of the novel was original, I have never read anything like this before and I was pleasantly surprised. Where is the second book?

The novel follows the story of Ivy, a girl given a mission to kill her new husband, Bishop by her father and sister. She is destined to kill him and of course, he is the best person in the world. I think that Ivy was a fantastic protagonist. She was the perfect balance between witty and strong. Bishop also. Bishop was...was...I don't know, the boyfriend of my dreams! He was kind, funny, intelligent and very handsome. The relationship between him and ivy was beautiful and it didn't at all feel rushed.

When I won this book, I read the synopsis and thought that it was just another cliche young adult book but boy, was I wrong. In fact, the novel was the most original and outstanding thing that I've read in quite some time. There was a lot of action and romance and generally, the book made me feel all warm and good inside. I was constantly smiling while reading this.

I cannot believe I have to wait eleven months for the release of the second book! The torture! Seriously, if you haven't read this yet, what are you waiting for? It is fantastic and you will not regret it! I gave the book five cupcakes because it was awesome.

¡Dios mio!

Final Sentence of the Book
I take a deep breath and let go of the fence.

Favourite Lines from the Book/Mis líneas favoritas del libro
"My mission is to kill him."

"Before I can second-guess myself, I turn and plant a quick kiss on his bare shoulder."

"A boy who doesn't want to lie, married to a girl who can't tell the truth. If there is a God, he has a sick sense of humor."

"You're easy to read, Ivy but the whole book of you is complicated."

"I kiss him until I can't breathe, until I have to pull back or die and it's a still a close call which I'd prefer."

"And it is Bishop who helped me break free. He didn't save me, though. He allowed me the freedom to save myself, which is the best type of rescue."

New Year, New Me, New Blog: ALL THE CHANGES!

Hello everyone! I hope that you are all having a wonderful New Year and that you are all happy and healthy. I am extremely sorry for not posting anything on my blog for the past month! I've been so busy with school work and during Christmas vacation, I unfortunately, had no internet which was horrible. I missed you all so much but I am back and better than ever and I have a few changes to discuss with you about this blog. They are kind of major and I'm kind of having a hard time accepting them myself.

1)I will be changing my blog name.

Yes, you read correctly. Truthfully, I hate the current name. It's extremely simple, boring and it doesn't exactly describe my blog. It was chosen in the spur of the moment and I didn't even think about it then. All I was really concerned about was getting my blog up and sharing my bookish life with people. Now, I feel differently. I want a name that is unique and fitting.

GOODBYE "BOOKLOVER2.0" AND WELCOME TO "WE'RE ALL BOOKISH HERE"

This title comes from a line in "Alice in Wonderland" which says "We're all mad here". I've never read the book or seen the movie but for some reason, that phrase has always stuck with me. I think that the new name represents a new start of a hopefully long and exciting year of blogging. I am really happy with my decision to make the change. By my next blog post, it will be final.

NEW THEME
Actually, this change is connected to the one before. I can't have an old theme with a new name.

Spanish Translations for Every Blog Entry!
I will be doing Spanish Exams in May and I believe that it will help me in my studies. It will be difficult but worthwhile. I am trying not to use "Google Translate" because then I will learn nothing. Hopefully, it helps.

I hope that you'll stay with me during these changes. Until my next blog post, I love you guys to infinity and beyond!

¡ADIÓS, "BOOKLOVER2.0" y BIENVENIDOS A "WE'RE ALL BOOKISH HERE"!

We're all mad here".
